Lancashire

Lancashire is a county in North West England, famed for the War of the Roses, being home to the historic House of Lancaster. The county flower is the red rose.

The land is a combination of rural areas devoted to vegetable crops, coastal plains including the West Lancashire Coastal Plain and the Fylde, and large estuaries such as Morecambe Bay. The county is home to significant Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: Arnside and Silverdale (home to Leighton Moss nature reserve) in the northwest, and the Forest of Bowland in the east (home to Beacon Fell Country Park). The latter forms part of the uplands which lead to the Pennines and include the West Pennine Moors and the Forest of Rossendale.

The climate in Lancaster is relatively mild, with the warmth in July and August at an average of 22°C. The sunshine hours peak in May, and are sustained quite highly until August, making Lancaster and agreeable county for avid gardeners. Lancaster gardens could easily sustain propagation of fruit and veg in the spring, ready for harvest in the summer. Rainfall is low in early summer but high in August, so seedlings will thrive in these conditions, ready to be harvested in the spring.
